The 2024 inspection also described a small jail layout with single cells, double cells, detention rooms, and other cell areas. It noted that the jail houses detainees for other jurisdictions, including the U.S. Marshals, so a person may be physically in the Christian County Jail while the case or custody authority is federal.

Christian County Jail Inmate Mail, Phone, and Money
Christian County Jail allows outgoing phone access from cellblock phones, but no incoming calls are allowed. The sheriff FAQ says phones are available from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., inmates may buy phone cards, and outside messages are not relayed unless an emergency is approved by the Jail Administrator, Chief Deputy, or Sheriff. The sheriff rights page also states that detainees may make three free calls within the first three hours of custody to contact an attorney and family.

Visitors may bring prescription eyeglasses and prescription medications in the original bottle with the label, but acceptance is at the Jail Administrator's discretion. After a transfer to IDOC, the sheriff FAQ says left property can be collected at the Sheriff's Office for 31 days before disposal.

The 2024 inspection noted 12 hours of on-site LPN nursing hours, periodic medical prescriber visits, and 8 hours of QMHP time per week. Diamond Pharmacy supplies prescription medications. The same report said the detainee handbook and rules were available electronically on CPC tablets.

Christian County Jail Inmate Programs and Conditions
IDOC's 2024 compliance monitoring report gives the most current official conditions detail in the research file. It noted weekly Celebrate Recovery group counseling, implementation of a MAR program, a new roof, new cleaning supplies, a new washer and dryer, pest control by Rare Pest Control, and meals prepared on site under contract with Consolidated Correctional Foodservice. The food preparation area is inspected by the Christian County Health Department.
The same 2024 report described the jail as very clean and orderly, while also finding a supervision-check issue under 20 Ill. Adm. Code 701.130. IDOC stated that 168 of 192 expected checks were timely, which it described as 88 percent compliance, and recommended complete compliance with documented personal observation requirements. The report said officials were purchasing an updated monitoring system.
The 2023 report had different noncompliance recommendations, including training documentation gaps and observation documentation issues. These are inspection findings, not private legal conclusions.
